Sen. Yvonne Boyer is calling on MPs to support a law that would criminalize non-consensual sterilization -- a practice that predominately affects Indigenous women. Boyer's bill passed the Senate last fall, and would amend the Criminal Code to make sterilizing a person without obtaining informed consent an act of aggravated assault. The House of Commons is expected to debate the bill for the first time on Feb. 26. (Feb. 24, 2026)
