More than 2 million visitors in Jerusalem for Ramadan

"Here in Jerusalem we love to eat semolina cookies, there are cookies made out of flour and others of semolina, some are stuffed with almond, nuts and dates", he said.

In Jerusalem, the flower of cities, sweets makers and women in households compete to make the most delicious sweets for Ramadan and the best cookies for Eid. The local sweet maker revealed his secret to us and said that the taste lies in the use of spices and a special ghee.

Jerusalem was decorated to receive Eid with all the bounties that Ramadan brought this year.

Around 2 million visitors came to this unique piece of land known as the ancient city of Jerusalem. This old city is only 1 km wide but filled with history and holy sites that speak to the hearts of people from all over the world.

"There are many people coming from South Africa to pray at Al Aqsa Mosque and to support Muslims because we truly dislike the way the Jews are treating them", said one South African visitor while another added: "This is a wonderful experience; we saw how people live in Jerusalem and how Jews are treating our Muslim brothers and sisters".

People from 48 countries of the world including the West Bank, neighboring countries and other states packed their suitcases and came to roam the streets of Jerusalem and celebrate Eid. Some came from Ramallah in the West Bank, "we arrived yesterday and attended the Friday prayer. It was a wonderful experience but the occupation forces have really disturbed us".

Another passenger was a Palestinian living in Saudi Arabia, but he was glad to come to Jerusalem "to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with his family and loved ones."

The streets of Jerusalem will long for the presence of visitors after Ramadan because this year, the city presented a unique ambiance during the holy month due to the increase in the number of visitors which was reflected in the festive celebrations and in the atmosphere.
