The title of the talk: Conserving Textiles-Inspiring Weavers Livelihoods
Saree Conservation becomes more meaningful if apart from conserving the original product, we could impact weavers and the continuity of the craft and also make the textile cultural heritage available to a larger audience through reproductions of original antique design. The speaker will be sharing the revival journey of Vimor which has been documenting and reviving traditional methods and designs, motifs. She will be sharing the revival of the Antique Pooja Saree design and its impact on weavers across South India for 43 years. This is a case study covering design weaving economic growth, innovation, re-interpretation of the textile including every aspect of the production and the growth of the consumer's acceptance.
