The Mhaighdean Mhara Collective is a seafaring troupe of musicians, makers, sailors, shipwrights and archivists. A theatrical mishmash of minds bound for the rolling seas, our quest, when she is on the water again, is to embark on a continuous journey searching for folk songs and stories from rural, coastal communities, as well as documenting and learning what it is to live by the coast in the modern world. We wish to collaborate and create new bodies of work with those we meet and live along side, initially focusing on the Hebrides, Ireland, Wales and Cornwall.

The Mhaighdean Mhara is a historic wooden workboat, a Fifie herring drifter. She is one of last of her kind, one of the few to survive before industrialised trawlers claimed the fish shoals and sea bed. We found her just on the brink of no return and have vowed to pour all we have into restoring and repurposing her.
