Swedish football has a long and fascinating history that began in 1896, when Örgryte IS became the first national champions. Back then, the title was decided through the Svenska Mästerskapet cup. It wasn’t until 1924–25 that the Allsvenskan league was introduced, and by 1931, its winner was officially recognized as the Swedish champion.
Over the decades, Allsvenskan evolved into one of Europe’s most passionate and competitive leagues. Clubs like Malmö FF, IFK Göteborg, AIK, and Djurgården built legacies with unforgettable matches, loyal fanbases, and historic title runs. The league also experimented with playoff formats in the 1980s and early '90s before returning to a traditional league structure in 1993.
