I spent a week exploring the Azores, one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean during the stormy, off-season. From Flores Island with its dramatic cliffs, hidden waterfalls, and lush rainforests, to São Miguel with its volcanic craters, crater lakes, and rolling green hills, the Azores were full of surprises at every turn.
Visiting the Azores in the shoulder season comes with its challenges. Flights get canceled, storms rolled in, and the weather changed constantly. But it’s also the perfect way to experience these islands without the crowds, and to really connect with its wild landscapes.
