🎥 Episode 1 – Lindhout Photography Museum Series
Welcome to the premiere episode! Today we spotlight a truly mysterious relic: the black Argus C4 35mm rangefinder — a camera so rare, only about 12 are known to exist worldwide.
Built in Ann Arbor, Michigan, this unique variant was designed for tropical export markets, featuring copper internals to resist corrosion in high-humidity environments. Unlike the common silver C4, this factory black-painted version remains an enigma in Argus history.
With a leaf shutter, sleek metal body, and simplified rangefinder system, the Argus C4 was a modern leap from its more famous successor, the Argus C3 “Brick.”
📸 Now officially part of the Lindhout Photography Museum Collection, this rare artifact takes its rightful place in camera history.
🔍 Details:
– Factory black finish (not aftermarket)
– Likely produced 1951–56
– Possibly intended for export or military use
– Leaf shutter design with flash sync at all speeds
– Estimated 12 surviving examples
