Have a snowblower that’s leaking oil?

In this video I diagnose and repair an oil leak on a Snapper snowblower (1695880) with a Briggs & Stratton 800 series snow engine (12A103-0148-E8).

I start by showing the most common places snowblowers leak oil and how to quickly inspect them: the crankcase gasket seam, PTO seal area, valve cover gasket, head gasket, and the oil fill tube or dipstick o-rings.

If your machine is leaving oil puddles, dripping, or smells like burning oil, these checks will help you narrow it down fast.

When no obvious leak shows up, I demonstrate using UV dye to trace a hidden oil leak and confirm the exact source.

In this case, the crankcase gasket had failed. Since the crankcase cover is already coming off, I also replace the PTO shaft seal at the same time.

You’ll see the full process step by step: removing the engine from the chassis, pulling the crankcase cover, replacing the crankcase gasket and PTO seal, and reassembling everything correctly so it stays dry.

This repair can save you hundreds compared to replacing the engine or replacing the entire snowblower.

I also show how to adjust the belt tension tighter since we find a lot of belt dust in the belt area
