California travel guide Veronica Hill shares a tour of the Kidspace Museum Pasadena in this episode of "California Travel Tips."
Rock walls, trike tracks, fossil hunting and simulated ant tunnels are just a few highlights at this fun and educational museum (and gardens) in Pasadena.
Geared toward children under 9, the Los Angeles children's museum encourages open-ended play and discovery with dozens of children's programs and outdoor exhibits.
Start by exploring the Kidspace Museum's 2-acre Arroyo Seco habitat, filled with meandering paths, native plants, running streams and ponds.
Kids can climb on a spider web rope course, climb a rock wall, then take a spin on the trike tracks. There are plenty of water features throughout the grounds, so be sure to bring an extra change of clothes. Highlights include a musical Water Symphony, Water Cycle exhibit, and bubbling Splash Dance fountains.
Inside the Digging Deeper Gallery, there are more fun activities, from earthquake simulators and a full-sized Jeep, to a Nature Exchange, which has rocks, minerals and a real meteorite on display.
The museum's on-site restaurant sells wraps, burgers and salads catered by Wolfgang Puck Cafe. You can even order Puck's famous Chinois Chicken Salad, made with crisp romaine, snow peas, sesame seeds and a Chinese Mustard vinaigrette.
Tip: Free family nights are held 4-8 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month. Free parking is available near the Rose Bowl in Lot I.
