Great art continues in Toronto! Every day, TO Live will feature different local artists - and each will bring you an exciting performance from the comfort of their own living rooms!
Today's featured artist is Santee Smith!
Santee Smith is a multidisciplinary artist from the Kahnyen’kehàka Nation, Turtle Clan, Six Nations of the Grand River. She trained at Canada’s National Ballet School and completed Physical Education and Psychology degrees from McMaster University and a M.A. in Dance from York University. Santee premiered her debut work Kaha:wi, a family creation story, in 2004 and one year later founded Kaha:wi Dance Theatre which has grown into an internationally renowned company. Her artistic work speaks about identity and Indigenous narratives. Her body of work includes 14 productions and numerous short works which tour nationally and internationally.
Santee maintains an Onkwehon:we (our ways) understanding of performance, where the body and role of artist, music, and dance are celebrations of life. The body is a vessel to house our spirit during our earth walk, with the artist as a storyteller and transformer.
