Types of data
In statistics there are 2 main types of sets of data, qualitative data and quantitative data.

Qualitative data consists of variables that can have attributes, labels or nonnumerical units, they can in some cases have numerical units, however, these are often used to label categories or as codes. For example, hair color is an attribute, low, middle or high income level can be used as a label or something like camera model, and area codes are numbers that are a category or code.

Quantitative data consists of variables that can have counts, or numerical measurements. For example, if we were looking at sales data of types of tee shirts sold, column 2, number of shirts sold and column 3, total revenue from sales would be quantitative data and column 1, types of tee shirts would be qualitative data.
