"This is after the January protest and massacre. So you can imagine the prisons are full of detainees and prisoners that makes the situation worse. Right now we can see that any protest, any kind of show of solidarity to people, that would be faced with (the) regime's brutality and arrest, and all that"

"I would say mixed emotions with fear, anxiety, hope. Because we're not for war, obviously, we're not for invasion or anything like that. But at the same time, many people in Iran, including myself, thinking maybe this attack helped weakening the regime."

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Shiva Mahbobi, former political prisoner and human rights activist:
++OVERLAID ON SHOTS 10++
"Someone like me started fighting from the age of 11, because I had no choice. As a woman you have to fight. We want the whole system change, basically. We want to overthrow the regime. And that's what people came on the street to do that, to overthrow their regime. And we don't want a system that repeats repression again."

STORYLINE:
American and Iranian leaders sharpened their rhetoric as the war raged on Tuesday, with the U.S. promising the most intense strikes yet and Iran ruling out talks and directly threatening U.S. President Donald Trump.
Iran’s attacks on regional oil infrastructure rippled through world markets as both sides dug in.
While both countries intensify the attacks, Iranians abroad look at the situation with mixed feelings.
Shiva Mahbobi, a former Iranian political prisoner and human rights activist living in UK said part of her and many in Iran look at the strikes as something that may weaken the regime, coming soon after protests in January that were met with a brutal crackdown.
"So it's a very mixed emotion, because we're not for war, obviously," Mahbobi told the Associated Press at an International Women's Day event in London.
She fears over the condition of political prisoners and women in the country as the Iran war intensifies.
