Bone marrow biopsy
CML is a BCR-ABL1 positive myeloproliferative neoplasm that has three phases: chronic, accelerated, and blast phases.
Clinically the patient will often have fatigue, malaise, night sweats, weight loss, and abdominal enlargement.
Bone marrow biopsy will be hypercellular and the peripheral smear will often have leukocytosis, granulocytic left-shift, absolute basophilia, eosinophilia, and thrombocytosis may be seen in 50% of patients.
Don't forget that CML is associated with the translocation t(9,22) and can often be treated with tryosine kinase inhibitors.
