Grolsch going Renaissance
In the late sixties of the former century thousands of people asked Grolsch who the composer was of the classical soundtrack that was used in the 'Vakmanschap is Meesterschap' TV commercials. Nobody knew that it was specially written for Grolsch by the young and talented Amsterdam musician Clous van Mechelen. Gerard Brummer, marketing and communications manager at Grolsch at that time, entrusted Clous van Mechelen to compose a full baroque concerto for flute and orchestra, based on the immense popular Grolsch tune. And so he did. The recording of this concerto took place in 1968 together with the recording of the soul version based on the same tune. Both versions where published the same year as a 45 rpm. EP. Somewhat later these two versions where completed with a concerto for oboe and for horn, a lute suite and a pop and jazz version. Recorded at Philips Recording Studios in Hilversum NL. All versions together where published on a 33 rpm. LP. And here it is, the lute suite, arranged for lute by Piet Brummer, right from the vinyl record: 'Grolsch Thema con Variazione'.
