In part 3 of his video series exploring the 3 analog effects built into the Dangerous 2-BUS+, star engineer Ryan West demonstrates the simple genius of ‘Paralimit’. West graphically explains what parallel processing is — the mixing together of a processed and unprocessed signal — and how it can make a stereo drum stem pump and breathe using Paralimit. West shows how easily he can route any stereo stem and process it with Paralimit on inputs 15 & 16 of the 2-BUS+. On recording artist Holly McCreary’s track, “How It All Went Down,” you instantly understand how the parallel limiting, with its automatic gain reduction, work together for a more dynamic, exciting, and punchy mix. Paralimit is one of the 3 built in effects on the 2-BUS+ along with Harmonics and X-former.
"In this video series I talked about how I use the Dangerous 2-BUS+ not only for 16-channels of analog summing, but also for these three really unique processors that are built right in,” says West. “Having these three analog circuits in the 2-BUS+ is like having three unique analog outboard processors."
“What's unique about the Paralimit analog processor in the 2-BUS+ is that it has automatic gain matching built into it. As you blend in more 'wet signal' it's bringing down the dry signal so that the loudness is still the same. Paralimit helps to make sure what you're listening to is just the effect, not perceived loudness — which can fool you into believing that 'louder is better',” adds West.
