Today I have for you a Razor Report on the Merkur Progress Adjustable Double Edge Razor as well as a Software Spotlight on Moon Soap's "Havana". Razor Report - Merkur Progress
The Merkur brand is owned by Dovo. The Progress was introduced in 1955. The original model apparently had a cream-colored plastic base plate that matched the adjustment knob. That was changed to the metal base plate we see on contemporary models. It features a brass handle, die-casted zinc razor head, galvanized surfaces, and bright chrome plating. It is a two-piece razor, making it easy to load a blade. They also introduced a long-handled version at some point in time. There are three variations being sold today. The model 500 is the original short-handled version, which is the one I have. The 501 is the long-handled variant. Lastly, there is a 570 model which is essentially the short-handled version that comes with a case and ten blades.

Software Spotlight - Moon Soaps "Havana"
Moon Soaps is the husband and wife team of Zachary and Melody Kent based in Corralitos, California. Melody has over a decade of soap-making experience, starting first with cold-process soap and body products. She and Zachary expanded into tallow-based shave soaps several years ago. Their first shave soap was Old School. They now offer eight different soaps and creams.

According to their website:
Havana is an intoxicatingly fresh and masculine scent mix of Tobacco and Bergamot, with middle notes of Vetiver, Spice, Musk, Warm Vanilla, and Aged Teak wood. Perfect for relaxed summer days or late nights out, Havana is a complex blend that will surely become a staple in any man's shave collection. 6 months of hard work went into the development of this unique and exotic shave soap.

The soap comes in a noticeably great tub that’s a little different in size than the standard wide, flat tubs of most artisanal offerings. The artwork and labeling are top-notch. You get a generous 6 ounces however I noticed that as of today, April 13, 2022, their price has gone up from $3 to $23. That’s still a very reasonable $3.83 per ounce and I’m sure it was done to cover their ever-increasing costs amid rising global prices on raw materials and shipping costs.
