Shocking revelation in Delhi fire

The tragedy has raised serious questions about negligence. Investigators found that the property was licensed to operate only six rooms under Delhi’s Bed-and-Breakfast policy but was allegedly running 25 rooms.

Accountability is now at the centre of the investigation. Delhi Police have registered an FIR under culpable homicide provisions, and the hotel owner has been named in the case and is reported to be absconding.

The Delhi government has ordered inspections of B&Bs and similar establishments across the capital to identify safety violations and prevent a repeat of the disaster. The question is why does such action come only after lives are lost?
