Abraham Gesner - The man who literally lit our lives!

Abraham Gesner is known for developing a refining process that transformed coal and it’s products into an illuminating fuel.

And this fuel is what he called as KEROSENE.

Gesner was part of the initial founders of the world’s first refinery.

This period met with the advent of development while transitioning from whale lamp oils to petroleum lightning,

And was a major help in providing the source of energy during the First World War.

On this day, Gesner travelled all the way to the United States and patented kerosene to launch

“The North American Kerosene Gas and Lighting Company”.

Kerosene being less expensive when refined from crude oil was successful with it being the leading lamp fuel of that century.

This aspect of capitalism in that era saved more whales than Greenpeace ever did; thus, proving the necessity of this discovery and nature conservation.

This manifested the preserving history of petroleum industry in the story of Canadian beginnings.
