My name is Brielle. I am thirty-eight years old. I live alone in a small apartment. Every morning starts the same way. I woke up at seven. I make tea for one person. I sit at my table. The other chair stays empty.
I work at an office downtown. I type letters all day. Nobody talks to me much. They say hello sometimes. Then they walk away. I eat lunch at my desk. I read a book or look at my phone. My phone never rings. There are no messages.
After work, I go home. The apartment feels cold and quiet. I made a simple dinner. Usually it is soup or salad. I eat it slowly. I look out the window. People walk outside. They talk and laugh together. They have friends and families. I watch them from my chair. The rain comes often here. It makes patterns on the glass. I count the drops sometimes. One, two, three, four. Then I lose count. The sound helps me sleep. But sleep comes slowly. My bed feels too big for one person.
