I was super impressed by the food on Sao Miguel. The Azores is known for its beef, wine, pineapple, and tea so there is a lot to experience. Luckily I did get to try quite a few dishes while I was there, but these were my favorites: 😋
Alcatra - A very hearty and heavy meal consisting of an incredibly tender beef that's been cooking in a flavorful sauce and served with that same sauce, rice, and Azorean cake bread (bolo levedos). Stuffing that rich meat in that sweet bread was the most beautiful bite I could have ever imagine. 🐮
Azorean Bifana - This is just a different version of the bifana from the mainland and a lot of places serve it differently here, but there's typically a good amount of stuff in it. Some put egg and crispy potatoes, some put crispy onions, and some add grilled pineapple. 🥪
