“A Different World,” “Martin,” “Living Single” and “Moesha” are just a few of the black sitcoms that became synonymous with '90s television. In the wake of the success of “The Cosby Show” in the 1980s, television was fertile ground for black sitcoms. But a funny thing happened on the way to the new century. Black sitcoms' prevalence waned.
