What It Once Was: Shreveport. The Dollar Theater. Joy’s Cinema.

Описание: In the 1980’s and the 1990’s in Shreveport, Louisiana, United States of America, there was a dollar theater in the south part of town, just off Mansfield Road called Joy’s Cinema.
It was called a dollar theater because that’s all it cost to go in and see a movie. One dollar. And it was all cash because debit cards didn’t even exist.
The movies shown here were all second run. What that means is they had already shown for weeks and maybe even months at first run, newer, fancier movie theaters in the area inside popular shopping malls and such.
The films were shown here usually just before their release on videocassette, but not always.
Sometimes a movie being shown here was also available for rent at the same time at a nearby video store, or even for purchase at various stores.
Now, why I remember the following things, I don’t know.
I can’t remember what I did last Tuesday but I remember this.
I remember a lot of things from the 1980’s and the 1990’s
Not so much now.
But I’ve always loved movies, and seeing them can often bring me back to that time in my life. What I was doing. Where I was going. And who I was with. Sometimes even how I was feeling.
So, for whatever reason I remember these things, and I know I’m right.
