The Five Eyes intelligence alliance has issued a major global warning on the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, stating that the next AI breakthrough could arrive within “months, not years,” significantly reshaping global cybersecurity risks.
The Five Eyes Intelligence Oversight and Review Council (FIORC), representing Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, highlighted that frontier AI systems are rapidly evolving and may soon surpass current expectations in both offensive and defensive cyber capabilities.
According to the report, AI is shrinking the time between vulnerability discovery and exploitation, increasing the speed and scale of cyber threats. At the same time, it also offers powerful tools for strengthening cyber defence systems.
The alliance has urged governments, businesses, and organisations to prioritise cyber resilience, adopt secure-by-design systems, strengthen layered defences, and treat cyber risk as a core leadership responsibility rather than just a technical issue.
