Chinese electric vehicle start-up NIO launched its smart SUV es8 rivaling Tesla's model X. Although Tesla has been in the Chinese market since 2013, NIO entrepreneurs believe that their electric vehicles will perform competitively because es8 is an internet product with a new business model. es8 is equipped with an artificial intelligence system and will benefit from Beijing's subsidies for local electric vehicles in conjunction to being backed by Tencent.
