I head to Grimoire next to meet up with Apolimesho. The medallion he gave us allows us to enter the city, but nevertheless the guards insist on keeping Draco and Rei outside the city limits—clearly, they don’t trust elves of any kind. The group reluctantly agrees and heads into Grimoire to Apolimesho’s residence in the local wizard tower. When we meet up with him, though, he’s got bad news. The Council, much like their elven counterparts, flatly refuses to believe that the demons were responsible for instigating this war. He gripes that its members are nothing but greedy politicians who only care about their personal power and prestige rather than the nation’s best interests, and Myrth reminds him that he's a Council member himself as the Empire’s official Archwizard. At that point, Apolimesho drops a bombshell—he’s no longer the official Archwizard. The Council has stripped him of his title and kicked him out of power because he dared to question their beliefs, which they consider treason.
This is obviously a tough setback, but there is an alternate way to get the Empire on board with us. Apolimesho says that we can go around the Council by appealing to the army generals, and names General Ashtran and General Samael as the top guys we need to persuade. Ashtran’s lower-ranking, so we’ll need to talk to him first, and we receive a new quest to do so. Apparently, Ashtran fought alongside Apolimesho in the original war against Fost, and the Archwizard remembers that he was very idealistic and full of passion for what was right. Ergo, if we convince him that the elves are an innocent party, Apolimesho is confident that he would refuse to lead a war against them. Of course, the elves are still at war with the Empire, and so Myrth changes the subject to the Elders refusing to believe Fost is back. Since Apolimesho is the expert on Fost, she wants to know if he has any ideas for convincing them. Apolimesho explains that Fost is a spirit inhabiting a suit of knight armor, but apparently this suit is 100% indestructible. To keep Fost dead, the individual pieces of the suit all have to be kept physically apart, and Apolimesho had believed that he had permanently accomplished this in the previous war. Each piece was sealed away in a separate location, presumably forever. But clearly, if Fost is back, the seals have been breached.
Saren notes that if the Elders want proof that Fost is alive, the best bet is to actually show them that the armor’s gone. If the resting places Apolimesho placed these armor pieces are now empty, it would constitute solid evidence that couldn’t be ignored. Apolimesho agrees, suggesting that they could go to one of the tombs and show that it was empty. Obviously, the Elders themselves would have to see this, prompting the question of whether they would tag along with us to the tomb. At that point, an unseen voice informs us that won’t be necessary—it’s Rei, who’s somehow managed to sneak into not just the city but Apolimesho’s tower undetected. It’s a real surprise to everyone, but Rei apparently really is that good at stealth. In any event, he tells Apolimesho that Myrth has the power of far-sight. She can transmit what she sees to someone else, even if they’re far away, so as long as Myrth is with us and sees an empty tomb the Elders won’t need to be physically present to see it themselves. That sounds like a plan, but Myrth warns that going to one tomb won’t be enough. The Elders are so skeptical of what we’re saying that we’ll need to check multiple tombs before they’re convinced. This frustrates Apolimesho, but apparently that’s what’s going to be necessary to end the war. The group hurries off to check the tombs, and when we return to the world map there are five new locations representing five different crypts around Aravorn. These five crypts were the resting places for Fost’s helmet, breastplate, gauntlets, greaves, and boots, respectively, and while we can visit them in any order we’ll ultimately need to check all five to please the stubborn Elders. I’ll start the process in the next video.
