A very fine cat indeed — remembering Palmerston.

Описание: Clowder Press marks with great sadness the passing of Palmerston, Emeritus Chief Mouser of the British Foreign Office, who died peacefully on 12 February, aged 12, while serving as Feline Ambassador in Bermuda.

From humble beginnings at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to Whitehall’s corridors of power, Palmerston served with quiet authority, impeccable instincts, and unmistakable presence, entering public life in 2016 when he was appointed Chief Mouser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Whitehall. In the years that followed, he became a quiet but constant presence within one of Britain’s most historic institutions.

After retiring in 2020, he returned to service in 2025 at the invitation of the Governor of Bermuda. His composure, character, and unmistakable bearing brought warmth and distinction to every post he held.

In an unsettled world, steadfast figures — however small in stature — leave a lasting mark.

As Samuel Johnson once observed of a cherished feline companion: “A very fine cat, a very fine cat indeed.”

Clowder Press offers sincere condolences to those who had the privilege of working alongside Palmerston.
