Addressing the conclave, PM @NarendraModi emphasised India’s initiatives to reduce petroleum dependence and strengthen energy security. The increased use of ethanol has helped reduce oil imports by approximately 4.5 crore barrels per year, resulting in savings of around ₹1.5 lakh crore.
By 2014, only 20 per cent of railway routes had been electrified, with thousands of diesel engines operating on the remaining routes, despite electrification being present in the country for nearly 60 years. Today, nearly 100 per cent of the broad-gauge network has been electrified, enabling the Indian Railways to save around 180 crore litres of diesel in 2024–25 alone.
The expansion of metro networks and focus on electric mobility mark a decisive shift towards sustainable energy.
