2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season Animation

While the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season was one of the least active seasons of the decade, and the 21st century so far, it did feature some notable storms, including 2 major hurricanes. One of which was Danny, a purely fish storm in August, which was the precursor to Erika. Despite only being a tropical storm, and a weaker one at that, Erika would bring disastrous impacts to Dominica, and impacted numerous more Caribbean islands, getting itself retired and becoming one of only two tropical storm-strength systems to do so.

The highlight of the season, is the obvious, the greatest hurricane of all time, our lord and savior, Joaquin. Now, while it did get retired and rightfully so, beyond that all aspects of this storm were rather unique. Forming in a unique area, taking a very erratic and slow-moving track, once being forecasted to hit the U.S. East Coast, then nearly peaking as a Category 5 hurricane following its destructive journey in The Bahamas as it entered the subtropics, truly an enigma of storms from this decade. Regarding its retirement, said Bahamas impacts were rather destructive, with it being one of the worst disasters in the island nation, and rather notably, Joaquin would sink the SS El Faro, an American cargo ship cruising through The Bahamas at the time, killing all 33 crew members on board.
