Описание: The cultural divide between those who voluntarily serve in the military and the citizens they protect continues to widen across the United States. If allowed to grow unchecked, this civil-military divide can have significant consequences. Yet a key aspect to maintaining a closer connection between the military and the people it serves is well within reach. All that’s needed is a renewed emphasis on the unifying power of conversation. In his 21-year career in the U.S. Army, Lt. Col. Alan Brown has served in Germany, Korea, Iraq, Alaska, Colorado and other stateside assignments. An Army communicator by trade (Public Affairs), he currently teaches first-year composition and literature at West Point. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
