For many people, stillness and deep breathing don’t feel calming at all —
they can actually activate panic, fear, or shutdown.
And that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
It means your nervous system is dysregulated and asking for something different.
In this video, I explain why:
• Breathing doesn’t work for everyone
• Stillness can increase anxiety
• A fear-based nervous system can’t calm down on command
• Movement is often the missing piece
When your body is in survival mode, it needs a way to release energy, not suppress it.
That might look like:
✔️ stomping
✔️ dancing
✔️ squeezing something hard
✔️ punching a pillow
✔️ doing a simple task like sipping water
Movement interrupts panic, helps regulate the nervous system, and creates the safety needed for calm to follow.
This is trauma-informed regulation.
This is body-based healing.
And this is how we meet the body where it actually is — so the mind can reconnect.
