Описание: In this third instalment of our 2019 A-Levels Essay Series, we will be tackling the following: “Is globalisation to be welcome or feared today?”

This question was tested in H1 General Paper during the 2019 GCE A-Level Examinations. Many of our Instagram followers have requested for the team to discuss about this essay. We will elaborate on the key arguments and examples that can be applied for this question.

So, what are the points that can be used to answer this essay?

Firstly, globalisation brings about economic benefits to all countries as markets are highly interconnected with free trade, capital flows and information flows. However, in times of volatility and uncertainty, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, we can see how globalisation can in fact harm certain nations. Poorer countries can sometimes be disproportionately harmed by globalisation.

Secondly, globalisation encourages countries to sacrifice self-sufficiency. This might be a detriment those who cannot sustain themselves without trade. However, in the case of Singapore, we can see that adequate plans have been made to tackle such an issue.

Lastly, a major part of globalisation is migration. Migration brings about economic benefits to both the home countries of migrants and the recipient countries. But, the outflow of skilled migrants can cause brain drain, which may prove detrimental to home countries that require talent and innovation.
