Today Ben shows us the simple process of cleaning the strings.
It’s important to clean your strings after every practice.
Dirty or corroded strings can be the cause of many unwanted issues including needing to replace them often and not being able to play fifths (and other intervals across strings) in tune.
Cleaning them will help extend their life; but strings don’t last forever. As a general rule for students, changing them once a year is good, twice a year is great.
Note that we do not recommend cleaning products for the strings such as alcohol based liquids, because regular use can mean the liquid seeps into the core of the strings and damages them. Using a clean microfibre cloth is the safest method. Strings are still hand made and need to be care for in order to get the most out of them.
