Christ the Redeemer Reopens after Covid 19 - Amazing Tips!

The statue of Christ the Redeemer was completed in 1931 and stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall, its horizontally outstretched arms spanning 92 feet (28 meters). The statue has become emblematic of both the city of Rio de Janeiro and the whole nation of Brazil.

Pandemic hours are 8am until 3pm. The morning is the best time to come because the weather is cool, least amount of people and the lighting and visibility are better. Visiting during weekdays are even better. But always pay attention to the weather. If it’s a cloudy rainy day, don’t waste your time. You are so high up that the clouds will easily cover him and you won’t be able to see a thing. This site is only operating at 50% capacity so plan ahead and book online.

They are enforcing safety protocols like temperature checks and lots of alcohol gel stations. They sanitize the train and vans before every trip, social distancing and mandatory masks (except for pictures).
You have many options without booking expensive guided tours.
The easiest and most efficient way to get there is by Uber right from your hotel.

We drove our car but I wouldn’t recommend it during high season. There is almost no parking on site. driving also doesn’t give you time to appreciate the exotic and diverse wildlife of the forest that covers the Corcovado mountain.

Some other great options are the Cog train and hiking or bike from the base of Corcovado to the parking area and then taking the van to the top. The Cog train is still relatively quick, it gives a bit more time to see the forest as the train slowly chugs up the mountain. With capacity limits, buy your tickets online in advance.

Remember, the Uber, car and hiking only get you to the parking area, you will still have to buy tickets for a van that will take you all the way to the top where the Christ is.

You can also buy tickets onsite at the gift shop. The gift shop is amazing! It has unique, high quality souvenirs but it’s pricey. Today, this shop is almost empty but normally this place is full and the lines are long. There are cafes and places to get food and snacks at the top that are open and functioning but I recommend bringing your own food. It will save you a ton of money.
