Topic 1: Conceptual framework for agroecology monitoring
Speakers: Ileana Iocola (CREA, Italy) and Alejandra Jimenez (INRAe, France)
The first talk will focus on the conceptual framework being developed for the Agroecology Partnership. It will explore how this framework builds upon existing tools and other monitoring approaches. The presentation will address three key types of monitoring for analysing agroecological transitions and provide practical knowledge, discussing the current gaps relative to the Partnership’s needs and identifying what additional elements must be developed. It will examine why the transition is happening by understanding the dynamic processes driving changes, how the transition is being implemented through the integration of agroecological principles, and what the effects of the transition are by assessing sustainability performance and impacts.

Topic 2: Evidence synthesis for advancing agroecological decision-making
Speaker: Nicola Randall (Harper Adams University, United Kingdom)
This talk will introduce the concept of evidence synthesis as a tool to support agroecological decision-making. Different types of evidence syntheses will be introduced, together with examples of their use for specific agri-food questions or decisions. The development of the EU COST funded Network for Evidence Synthesis in the Agri-Food Sector presents an opportunity to improve the capacity and capabilities for evidence synthesis within Europe, and this will be summarised briefly.
