A quick visual guide on how to properly string wound guitar strings on vintage-style split-post tuners (like those found on Fender guitars). Simple, clean, and tuning-stable:
  1. Gently pull the string tight by hand to remove slack and straighten it.
 2. Measure about 2.5 tuner posts past the one you’re stringing.
 3. Bend the string at that point (the “half” post), and trim off the excess. *This bent section will act as an anchor inside the tuner post*.
 4. Insert the bent end into the slot, then tune up to pitch, making sure the string winds neatly downward around the post - no overlapping turns.
