Mr. James Hodges was illegally arrested by two deputies from Columbia County Sheriff's Office for resisting an officer without violence. Mr. Hodges who is legally blind was walking down the street when Deputy Jayme Gohde stopped him because she "allegedly" believed she saw a silver pistol with a white grip sticking out of his right back pocket. Shortly after being stopped, Mr. Hodges showed Deputy Gohde that the suspected firearm was his folded-up navigational aid. Instead of releasing Mr. Hodges, Deputy Gohde continued to detain him to obtain his name and date of birth. Mr. Hodges correctly advised her that he did not need to give that information since she no longer had reason to believe he was openly carrying a firearm. When she continued her detention, Mr. Hodges requested to speak to her supervisor. She informed Mr. Hodges, that her supervisor was standing over there, so Mr. Hodges went over to speak to Sargent Harrison. Ultimately Mr. Hodges was arrested for resisting an officer without violence and booked into the Columbia County Jail. The entire encounter between the two deputies and Mr. Hodges was recorded on Deputy Gohde's body camera and it is included in this video. What is even worst than the illegal detention and arrest of Mr. Hodges is that Deputy Gohde lied in her police report about the order of the events in order to try and show she had probable cause to arrest Mr. Hodges. Eight days after his arrest, the State Attorney's Office declined to prosecute Mr. Hodges. In this video, we are going to walk through the facts of the case and discuss all of the illegal actions taken by Deputy Gohde and Sargent Harrison. @TheFirearmFirm
