During Sunday's livestream someone asked: how do you research stocks and companies before you start investing in them? Well, of course everyone's research method is different, but I'll show you a few ways you could think about.
My first stock research method is: my head. I simply think about the possible future of the world, certain companies and certain cryptocurrencies. I think electric vehicles and cryptos have a future; I'm not so sure about oil companies and shops with no online presence. I also want to invest in stocks that I can understand.
My main source of information to research stocks before investing, is YouTube. You can just search for a sector and write down the stocks and companies you hear most. Then you can search for that specific stock and get more detailed information.
The Motley Fool, Yahoo Finance and Seeking Alpha are also good websites to do some due diligence with regards to stocks and companies. You can find both bullish and bearish views, so you get the entire picture.
If you want more financial data about the stocks and companies you're interested in, check the website of the SEC, which is the Securities and Exchange Commission. Here you'll find the quarterly (10-Q forms) and annual (10-K forms) reports. You can look at things like their balance sheet and their revenue and expenses for example.
I also sometimes check Reddit to see if I can find good due diligence about certain companies I like. But you have to be careful: not all content is good.
Stocktwits is what I use to get a feeling of the sentiment about a certain stock that I might invest in. I usually just read through the comments to see what people say. It's difficult to find good information about companies, but sometimes there are useful links you can check out.
If I want to invest in SPACs, I usually go to spactrax.com. Here you can find SPAC profiles with investor presentations, important dates and the SEC filings. There's also a calendar with useful information.
For technical analysis with regards to stocks and cryptocurrencies, I use Tradingview. You can create lists of your favourite stocks and cryptos. And you can use multiple indicators to do technical analysis with.
I also share my due diligence and research with my Discord premium members. I started doing this a few weeks ago. My goal is to have all premium members share their own research as well. That way we can have like a Wikipedia for the stocks we like.
So that's my method. Do you have any more useful suggestions to do research for stocks and cryptocurrencies?
