National Master Athletes registration for upcoming National Masters & World Masters Athletics Champ

Описание: There is some very good news for Masters Athletes in India. Athletics Federation is planning to conduct Master Athletics Championship very soon in the country. AFI has decided to re-open the AFI UID registration for Master Athletes from 30 Jul 2021 onwards. Before explaining about the registration process, it is very important to know a little bit about What is Masters Athletics, its scope and a short history.

Masters Athletics is a second career chance for athletes over the age of 35 who could not compete at a young age due to some reasons. Similar to Olympic Games, there are World Masters Athletics Championship held every two years for athletes above 35 years of age. The next World Masters Athletics Championship will be held from 1 Jul 2022 to 12 Jul 2022 in Tampere, Finland. Masters Athletics is quite popular IN MANY COUNTRIES LIKE USA and they are given recognition, fame and sponsorships similar to Olympians. Some of the best performing Master Athletes Names are also inducted in USATF HALL OF FAME. Masters Athletics is gaining popularity in India too and it is expected that the sport of Masters Athletics will grow rapidly in future since Athletics Federation of India has decided to conduct these events under its wings.
In the past, there were three National Level bodies who conducted three separate National Masters Athletics Championship in India and the Master Athletes were not sure which of these bodies is genuine and affiliated to Athletics Federation of India that will take them to World Championships. Even I had won a gold and two silver medals at the National Championships in 2019 but did not receive any intimation for participating at the World Championships. Now all these problems will be solved with AFI taking a very good step of organizing Master athletics competitions in future.
In this regard AFI had opened registration of Master athletes on the website of Athletics Federation of India. The last date for the registration was 10 May 2021 which had expired. After several requests from Masters Athletes, in which I too had sent mail to AFI for extending registration date, the AFI has decided to re-open registration dates for Master Athletes from 30 Jul 2021 onwards on AFI website (www.indianathletics.in) for which link is given below. You will have to go the ORS Login tab and click on Masters Athlete login and the registration page will open and will get active on 30th Jul. Minimum Age for registration is 35 years. On payment of Rs. 1000 AFI will issue a biometric AFI-UID card during the National Championship. Only the registered athletes with AFI UID can participate in National Championship to be organised by Athletics Federation of India.
So, if you want to compete in the Masters Athletics go ahead and complete your registration on 30th Jul. This is a great opportunity for athletes like us to play sports and compete at any age. And as far as long distance running is concerned there are many examples of even 55 to 60 year old runners who can run like National level elite runners and even beat younger runners below 30 years.
