Every RTS needs this, it belongs to the genre, you can't expect to make a RTS and not do it, unless you come with something creative, otherwise every real time strategy game will have a type of fog of war, for a while now didn't found any videos that did what I wanted, so I decided to actually make something customized following what Age of Empires 3 did, maybe not exactly, but visually yes, and that is what matters.
We will cover concepts and requirements to make a fog of war, showing some of the differences of doing it in 3D because it is somewhat complex, it's much easier to do it for 2D games, so on this video we go into details of how some systems will work for this.
And of course we are implementing it inside Godot, so no excuses for you if you want to make a RTS, this is another mechanic needed for the genre, there are different ways to do it, but I think doing it this way is easy for artists to understand and control as they want, perfomance wise it will be much lighter than using volumetric or particle fog of war,
