PM Modi Sweden visit 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conferred Sweden’s prestigious Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander Grand Cross in Gothenburg, in one of the most historic moments of his five-nation diplomatic tour.

Sweden conferred the Royal Order of Polar Star Commander Grand Cross upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi — described as the utmost recognition and honour that can be conferred upon a Head of Government. This marks Modi’s 31st global honour.
The Royal Order of the Polar Star was instituted in 1748 and is intended to recognise personal endeavours for Sweden or for Swedish interests, particularly within public activities, as well as the successful performance of public tasks and duties. Its motto — Nescit Occasum — means “It knows no decline.”

The Order is awarded by the monarch of Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and represents the highest civilian honour that can be bestowed upon a foreign Head of Government.

Modi also held delegation-level talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg , covering defence, technology, clean energy and strategic cooperation as part of his broader push to deepen India-Europe ties following the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

This is the third leg of PM Modi’s five-nation tour covering UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy — May 15 to 20, 2026. Sweden joins a growing list of nations recognising Modi’s global statesmanship with their highest honours.
