Holding Court: From Visibility to Victory — Defending Trans Rights

Описание: Alliance for Justice is inviting you to join us on Wednesday, March 26 at 1pm ET for Holding Court: From Visibility to Victory — Defending Trans Rights. This virtual conversation will feature Meghann Burke (she/her), Executive Director of the National Women's Soccer League Players Association; Shayna Medley (they/she), Senior Litigation Staff Attorney at Advocates for Trans Equality; and Paul Spivey (he/him), who serves on the Board of Directors of PFLAG National. The conversation will be moderated by Kris Hayashi (he/him), Director of Advocacy and Action for the National LGBTQ Task Force.

In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, our panelists will come together to discuss the importance of the fight for the freedom to be who we authentically are. Our panelists will delve into the current state of trans rights in the United States, including recent developments at the Supreme Court and lower courts, including the latest on United States v. Skrmetti. Our discussion will also focus on the Trump administration’s attempts to erode trans rights, for example, an executive order to have passports reflect an individual’s sex “at conception.” With the rising wave of legislative and judicial actions attempting to dismantle transgender rights, the panel will offer insights into the challenges facing the trans community across the country. We will examine key court cases, state-level legislation, and federal policies that threaten access to healthcare, gender-affirming care, and basic civil liberties for trans people.

Additionally, the event will explore the ways in which the progressive movement can come together to combat these efforts and protect the rights of trans people. Panelists will discuss strategies for advocacy, legal intervention, and grassroots organizing to fight back against regressive policies. The conversation will emphasize the importance of solidarity and will highlight opportunities for activists to work alongside each other to secure a future where trans rights are recognized, solidified, and celebrated.
