Описание: Joel is a 57-year-old Filipino who’s been through a lot. He used to have it all—his girlfriend, a job, a place to stay—but alcohol took it all away. His drinking got out of hand, and after losing his job and his girlfriend pushing him away, he ended up homeless. It’s been about two months now since he hit the streets, but he’s been sobered for three months, and he’s determined to keep it that way.

The transition to shelter life hasn’t been easy. While some shelters are strict, Joelle says the one he’s at now is more laid-back, which can be a little frustrating at times, but he still feels safe. The hardest part, though, was the time he spent on the streets. It was brutal—cold, wet, and uncomfortable. But it also gave him a wake-up call. He realized how much he took for granted and how much he wanted to turn things around.
