Описание: India has approved the acquisition of the 2K22 Tunguska Air Defence Missile System from Russia to strengthen its multi-layered air defence network. This major defence deal worth ₹858 crore includes ₹445 crore specifically for the Tunguska system for the Indian Army and was signed with Rosoboronexport in New Delhi under the supervision of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The approval came from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where multiple defence projects worth ₹2.38 lakh crore were cleared to boost the capabilities of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.

The 2K22 Tunguska is a powerful short-range air defence system equipped with both missiles and guns, designed to protect ground forces from low-flying aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles. It uses 9M311 surface-to-air missiles with a range of around 8–10 km and twin 30mm autocannons capable of firing thousands of rounds per minute to destroy incoming threats.

The system also features a 360-degree radar, tracking system, and digital fire control computer, allowing it to engage multiple targets simultaneously even in electronic warfare conditions. Its tracked armored chassis allows it to move with tank and armored units in all terrains and quickly shift into firing position.

Tunguska has proven its effectiveness in various conflicts and continues to be used by several countries. For India, this purchase provides a reliable and battle-tested air defence solution while indigenous systems like Akash and QRSAM continue to develop.

With increasing drone and aerial threats along the borders, Tunguska will play a key role in protecting armored units and strengthening India's air defence shield.

This deal highlights India's balanced defence strategy, combining foreign technology with indigenous development to ensure national security and operational readiness.
