(6 Jul 1964) Malawi (formerly Nyasaland), the newest nation in the world opens its parliament. Malawi becames a free nation today, July 6 after 73 years of British colonial rule. Representing the Queen, Prince Philip is on hand to help celebrate with Prime Minister Dr Hastings Banda. Later the same evening, Prince Philip attends an independence ball where he dances with Dr Banda's secretary Miss Cecilia Kadzamira.
