Charis is a student of Mira Kang.

Charis Chien started playing the cello in January of 2018 and has grown to love it since. She is currently a student under Dr. Mira Kang and has performed pieces that include Gabriel Fauré's Élégie and Saint-Saëns' Allegro appassionato, Op. 43.
She has been a participant of the CJMEA Middle School and High School Orchestra for numerous years as well. She also won the third place prize in the 2025 Prima Volta Competition Summer Edition from her performance of Saint-Saëns' first movement of Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 33.
Aside from solo pieces, she enjoys playing chamber music as well. The string quartet she plays with at The Peddie School was selected to advance to the Semi-Final Regional Round of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s 42nd Annual Young Musicians Concert from their performance of Yiwen Jiang's Yao Dance.
