They must believe they are the superior and grandiose person they want you to believe they are or else they are at risk of experiencing narcissistic injury as their narcissistic supply runs out. When you call out a narcissist for lying, they blame shift and make it about you. They use blame shifting as a way to get the focus off of them and onto you. Does a narcissist ever stop lying? Do narcissists lie to themselves? The answer to both of those is yes. While it might seem the narcissist is lying to you, they are also lying to themselves. They can’t stop lying because that is their defense mechanism against a world they think is out to get them. They can’t risk being found out for the fraud they are. If you want to know how much do narcissists lie, you need to consider how full their narcissist supply is. Narcissists must always lie to protect their narcissist supply. However, as their supply runs low, they will lie more. Why do narcissists lie for no reason? Because lying is one of the few methods they have to protect against experiencing symptoms of shame. The narcissist lack of self awareness then worsens their lying because they lack empathy and insight so they don’t notice, nor care, how their actions affect others. How can i believe a narcissist? You can’t. Because the narcissist is so controlling and manipulative, you will never really know what is the truth and what is a lie. And the lying from the narcissist is more destructive when it is part of the gaslighting because that is one more way they can manipulate and control you. The narcissist will gaslight and lie as long as it benefits them, with no consideration of you.
