STORYLINE:
French President Emmanuel Macron was welcomed by Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday as the two leaders began talks in Kuwait at the start of Macron’s four-nation Gulf tour.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties, regional stability, freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and energy security, amid heightened regional tensions and disruptions to maritime traffic.

Macron’s tour, running from Oct. 19 to 21, also includes visits to the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar. France and Kuwait established diplomatic relations in 1961 and cooperate on defense, security, trade, investment and education.
