From Kokyūhō to Koshi-nage (Ryōte-dori)
Attacker (Uke) grabs both of your wrists – Ryōte-dori.
Defender (Tori/Nage) uses breath, center movement, and proper timing.
🥋 Step-by-Step Flow:
1. Initial Grab – Ryōte-dori:
Uke grabs both of your wrists firmly.
2. Establish Kokyūhō:
Sink slightly and center your balance.
Feel uke’s grip and connect to your hara (center).
Begin raising both arms forward in an arc, as in Kokyūhō, using breath and upward energy (not muscle).
Keep elbows slightly bent and relaxed; extend energy through your fingers.
3. Bring Uke Forward:
As you raise your arms, uke will be pulled slightly forward.
Step back slightly with one foot (often the left), drawing uke's balance forward.
At the same time, pivot your hips and begin turning, guiding uke in front of you.
Uke's arms should follow yours naturally, keeping their balance broken and posture extended.
4. Transition to Koshi-nage Setup:
As uke comes forward and upward, release one of your arms (usually your leading hand) to slide across uke’s lower back.
Begin to enter deeply with your hips under uke’s center—like in Koshi-nage entry.
Maintain close contact between your hip and uke’s body.
5. Execute Koshi-nage:
Lift slightly using your hips—not your back—rotating your body.
Uke’s balance should already be broken from the Kokyūhō movement.
Pivot and guide uke over your hip, allowing them to fall smoothly with control.
6. Finish:
Maintain zanshin (alertness) as uke lands.
Return to a stable stance, ready for the next movement.
🌬️ Key Principles:
Use Kokyū ryoku (breath power) to control the flow—not brute strength.
Maintain connection and ma-ai (distance).
Blend and redirect uke’s energy rather than resisting it.
Timing and smooth transition are crucial when switching from Kokyūhō to Koshi-nage.
