🪴 Reinforcing the Pea Trellis and Cutting Back Green Tea – Japan Garden

Описание: 🪴 Join me for an unedited hour in the garden here in Shizuoka, Japan. Beginning around 9 a.m., I spend the morning finishing work on the garden peas, completing the trellis that will support them as they grow. Bamboo poles form the frame, and I initially lace them together with antique hemp rope purchased at a flea market. The hemp proves a little too flimsy, so today’s work includes reinforcing the structure with twine—still fully biodegradable—until the lattice feels ready to hold living weight. With that done, the peas are set and prepared for the weeks ahead.

I then turn my attention to the old line of green tea plants that runs along the flood channel. The work here is careful and grounding: cutting back growth, clearing debris from the base, and opening the space with the long view of shaping a proper green tea hedge in time. I also spend a little while clearing the flood channel itself, removing built-up leaves and remnants left behind by recent weather.

There is no narration in this video. The camera is set down and left to run as the morning passes—tools working, bamboo and twine shifting, winter light moving slowly across soil and stone. By about 10:30, the work is done for the day, and I call it quits, leaving the garden in better shape than I found it.
