A recording of Aquanty's January 2026 webinar "HydroGeoSphere Development 2025: The Year in Review" where we look back at the major developments, enhancements, and structural changes introduced to HydroGeoSphere over the past year.
Join as as we explore the many changes and improvements made to HydroGeoSphere throughout 2025. This discussion will review the many new commands/features introduced in 2025, key changes to binary file formats resulting in memory and runtime improvements, and highlight key structural changes to the HydroGeoSphere ecosystem (namely the deprecation of hsplot.exe in favour of the new and improved hgs2vtu.exe.).
HydroGeoSphere (HGS) is a three-dimensional control-volume finite element simulator which is designed to simulate the entire terrestrial portion of the hydrologic cycle. It uses a globally-implicit approach to simultaneously solve the 2D diffusive-wave equation and the 3D form of Richards’ equation. HGS also dynamically integrates key components of the hydrologic cycle such as evaporation from bare soil and water bodies, vegetation-dependent transpiration with root uptake, snowmelt and soil freeze/thaw.
